Default High Idle on cold start for 5 minutes

I have a Santa Fe 2.4 FWD 100k miles and i notice the high idle when the car is cold. I carefully read the posts here about high idle being normal on cold starts but from my experience with other cars, the idle should go somewhere around 1500-1800rpm for 2-3 seconds then drop to around 1200 for a few more minutes until the engine gets warmer but my idle is at 1800-2000 for 5 minutes until the engine is almost at half of the operating temperature, then it drops to 600-800.
I had the transmission rebuild 2 time so far and i am starting to suspect that this high idle puts a lot of stress on the transmission, since the first 5-1o minutes every time i use the car the idle is too high, and my wife takes some time to get the car out of the parking spot with the food mostly on the brake.

Is this high idle normal for that long? I was also looking at replacing "idle air control valve" or the "idle speed control motor" or the "throttle position sensor" or the "idle solenoid" but where should i start? which one controls the idle at cold start?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

I have the high idle as well and would like to hear some discussion about this concern. I've never had a car/truck idle this high right after starting it.

Yes, if you drive your car around in a high idle condition like that, it's really bad for the trans if you keep your foot on the brake at lights, etc. I can't find a TSB. What year is your car?
