Default Santa Fe cuts out during warm up

Gents

I'm in remote Costa Rica, with a 2002 4 cyl Santa Fe.

It has cut out on me twice now. It's either water splashing on an ignition component, or something is malfunctioning during the warm up. Both times it occured approx 3 or 4 minutes after starting with the temp guage just starting to move.

I wait 5 minutes and and it starts perfectly and does not stall again. It just cuts out with no sputtering or warning.

I did have it on a long drive in heavy rain with no problem.

I tried to stall it with the garden hose but had no luck. Possible faulty temp sensor?

Having done some reading, it does sound like the crank position sensor. Sounds like it is behind the crank pulley and the plastic timing belt cover.

Question: Can you get at it without removing the pulley? Looks like you may be able to remove two bolts from the cover and bend it bacK???

I am not close to a garage that I trust, but I can get parts sent out to me. I only have a partial tool kit so far.

Thanks

According to the Hayne's manual you remove the bottom timing
belt cover, disconnect the sensor wiring harness, remove the
two mounting bolts and lift the sensor off.

Thanks

Just wondering if anyone with hands on experience has managed to bend the cover enough to remove it. Two cover bolts on the front half of the engine look accessible. Don't think that I can remove crank pulley and complete belt cover with the tools I have.

Also looking for confirmation that the crank sensor sounds correct.

I brought down an OBD II reader only to find out that the vehicles here do not have to comply!
