Default Santa Fe / TPMS system

I have a Santa Fe and want to get after market wheels. Do you have to put the TPMS senros on all four wheels? Do each of the wheels have individual sensor?

Is this a law?

Yes, there are sensors in each wheel. No it's not a law but if you want the TPMS to work you need 4 sensors.

You don't need to buy new sensors, just remove the ones from your factory wheels and install them in the new wheels. If you do buy new sensors, you will have to take them to the dealer to get them to work with the system. And once you do that, your original sensors will no longer work because the system can only be programmed to read 4 sensors at a time.

I just discovered that the Federal Government did pass legislation and that dealers are required to have these working before the car leaves the lot. My vehicle came with after market wheels and the sensors are not even in the rims. My concern is that the dealer had an obligation to make this vehicle meet the saftey standards and they did not. I have the car scheduled to be returned and have the sensors installed, and want to ensure that this is done correctly and that each rim is fitted properly with the sensor and properly calibrated.
