First post other than my "hello" in the new members area.

Trying to become a little more self sufficient and save a little money so I figured I'd start by doing my own oil/filter changes. Did my daughter's 2004 Mustang without too many problems. Then the fun began. Absolutely could not get the drain plug out on my 1998 Volvo wagon - some gorilla must have tightened it at the last oil change.

Next came my wife's 2005 Santa Fe with the 2.7L V6. I must have spent 30 minutes crawling around under that thing with a flashlight and I simply could not find the drain plug or the oil filter. Am I a total moron (OK don't answer that) or do you have to remove that whole skid plate thing to get at anything underneath this model? The bargain basement lift I have didn't get the vehicle up very high so I was pretty limited to my movements but like I said, I pored over the belly of that beast with a flashlight!

OK, I'm ready to take my abuse!

 

The oil filter is on the side of the pan which faces the front of the car:



The oil drain plug is located towards the rear of the pan (between bolts 7 and 8 in the picture below):

 

So you're saying I should be able to see both of these without removing anything else? Do they look weird or disguised or something? I swear I looked at every inch of the engine bottom with a flashlight and didn't see them!

 

You may have to remove a lower shield to see the pan. I know I have to on my Tucson.

 

Ahhh...now the plot thickens! I had a feeling I wasn't seeing everything. I guess I'm going to have to get a better jack to get the vehicle up higher in order to get that pan off and then be able to get at stuff.

I am new to the site and was curious if anyone know if this would be the same chart for a 2008 Tucson with V6? My oil filter is very easy to access but not sure where the oil drain plug is?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

 

Drain plug is on the oil pan as seen in previous pics of 2.7 V6 seen above, need a 17mm wrench

 

Thanks! The oil filter is really easy to get too though. They must have changed something. I plan on putting 0W20 amsoil synthetic in it so it cuts the cost if I do it myself.
