Default 02 Sonata won't run when hot...

my car died about two weeks ago while driving, (it had no spark or fuel)the garage said it was the timing belt/crank sensor. they replaced belt, sensor, serpentine belt- i picked it up drove it for a week until it died again. it started to buck a lil and then stalled, started it up reved it (sounded fine) put it into drive and it stalled again. it would not start after that, used ether and gas, still didnt fire. garage is telling me it started, ran until it got hot and stalled, so it seems to run when its cold. he thinks its the fuel pump, which i cant see how. does anyone have any idea what this could be, i already put 600 into the car...and i feel like this is a wild goose chase. any advise is appreciated. thank you.

He replaced the "belt, sensor, serpentine belt"...? The timing belt and the crank sensor wouldn't have gone out at the same time.

Is there a "check engine" light? Did the mechanic check for any trouble codes?

Fuel pump is possible, but without a fuel pressure check it IS a "wild goose chase".

Sounds like your mechanic is a "parts changer", which is shooting in the dark these days. There is just too many things that can go wrong without good diagnostic work.

One thing, he sounds cheap to replace all those parts and for only $600. Of course looks like you got what you paid for.

Recommend you take it someplace else for some good diagnostic work.

he was going to check the fuel pressure today, i did not speak w/ him to find out what the verdict is. the light did come on the night before after i got gas, and i assumed it was the gas cap until it died. i will let you know how it works out, i really appreciate it. i do trust this guy, but he did say someone stole his scanner, so his buddy was suppose to bring one over...apparently he didnt. thanks again

A car mechanic without a scanner is like a painter without brushes. Good luck.

The other possibility is water in the fuel tank. You can eliminate this possible problem for $7. Put gas dryer in your tank - make sure you follow their ratio requirement.
If THIS is the issue, it should clear up within a couple of miles.
For the cost, it's worth a try. Make sure that the additive is a gas dryer.
Good luck!

This thread is over 8 years old
If they haven't fixed it by now then they probably got rid of the car.
But, it is a good suggestion

Having re-read the thread ...
He tried to start the engine with ether or gas and would not start when hot
I would have leaned more to bad ignition system
Probably a coil pack.
