Default 06 Sonata Check Engine light with codes

06 sonata 4 cylinder
70k miles

Codes are:

P2422, and P2422 p/d

Reads:

EVAP System
Vent solenoid valve stuck closed

What exactly does this mean and how do I go about fixing it? Thanks!!

It means you probably fill up your gas tank until it's almost spilling out. It has "gas logged" the charcoal canister in your evap system. The little bits of charcoal in the canister have floated up the evap hose and clogged up the system. You might find it hard to fill your gas tank now because it won't allow gas to go in without shutting off the pump.

Do you have any other symptoms other than a check engine light?

none at all

light came on about 2 weeks ago but went off within a week, I guess 3 trips w/o problem?

But it came back on today so I figured I'd read the codes. Car seems fine, no sputtering or anything.

Take off the solenoid and see if it's dirty first.


2006 > G 2.4 DOHC > Emission Control System DESCRIPTIONGasoline vapor in fuel tank is collected in the charcoal canister. The ECM controls the Purge Control Solenoid Valve(PCSV) to purge some vapor in canister to the intake manifold and then vapor is mixed into intake air.[/align]CIRCUIT DIAGRAMSIGNAL WAVEFORMHARNESS INSPECTION[/align]Refer to DTC P0444 and P0445 troubleshooting procedures.[/align]INSPECTION[/align]
When disconnecting the vacuum hose, make an identification mark on it so that it can be reconnected to its original position.[/align]1.Disconnect the vacuum hose from the solenoid valve.[/align]2.Detach the harness connector.[/align]3.Connect a vacuum pump to the nipple to which the vacuum hose was connected.[/align]4.Apply vacuum and check when voltage is applied to the PCSV and when the voltage is discontinued.[/align]Battery voltage[/align]Normal condition[/align]When applied[/align]Vacuum is released[/align]When discontinued[/align]Vacuum is maintained[/align]
5.Measure the resistance between the terminals of the solenoid valve.[/align][hr]PCSV coil resistance (???):[/align]19 ~ 22??? at 20??C (68??F)[/align][hr]

There shouldn't be any consequences other than the check engine light, and you fail state emissions test.
