Default 2008 seatbelt chime

Has anybody figured an easy way to muffle the overly loud (to me) key-in and seatbelt chime. Pulling the console and all the lower dash trim to get to it seems like way too much work, although eventually it will have to come out to install a remote start.

Any ideas?

I was planning to find the noise-maker under my dash and muffle it with a piece of tape. I didn't know it was so hard to get to until I read your post. I'll try to take a look at it this week. It is one loud sucker.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the current model Sonata has the chime built into the Body Control Module which controls many of the car's accessories. The only way to silence it is to modify the module, which is a very expensive part to replace if you mess it up.

On my 05 Elantra it was a 10 second job involving unplugging the mechanical chime module.

I'm glad someone brought this up - I was going to, but got beaten to it.

I have a 2007 Sonata and that seatbelt noise is deafening. Is that functioned by a fuse that I can take out? Someone please help me get this thing turned off. I love the car and everything about it, but that has to get turned off. I mean seriously - any dipsh1t who needs a frickin' bell to go off to remind them to put their seatbelt on, is an inbred moron already. Give me a break.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks much in advance.

If you dare to take apart your CENTER CONSOLE than yes, you can do it.

Am quoting from another Sonata forum:

"It is a complete pain in the butt, but if you are gentle and careful, you can spend about 2-3 hours doing it and eventually see a black box, about 4 x 7 x 1.5 inches.
It is directly underneath and behind the ashtray, quite securely mounted too.
There is a little grill in it that emits a horrible tone also known as the seatbelt "chime". NEVER have i heard a bell that sounds as awful as it does, but whatever, its a chime."

Damn! I wish it just a fuse that could be taken out. That sucks. Oh well. I still love the car regardless, but this is the first car I've ever owned that does that.

Insurance companies LOVE it, btw. And when you pay your premium, your bottom line enjoys it too.

Does anyone know exactly where the chime is coming from? Not to ask a dumb question, but is it out of one of the speakers or something? The sound makes it feel like it's coming from above, which can't be right. Does anyone know?

As mentioned above, it comes from the center console.
