2012 Sonata Hybrid Battery

2012 Sonata Hybrid Battery
I wanted to get a feel for others experience and if this is typical.
1) The car only seems to use 25% of the battery. Anything below 50% and the car wants to charge the battery. It switches to EV as soon as it reaches 75% SoC.
Of course I can get it to go into EV at any point between 50 and 75%, but have yet to see it charge above 75% or go below 50% unless I'm "forcing" it to.
2) I take my kid to school every morning. It is a very short trip, approx. 2 mile round trip, about 50/50 uphill/downhill. I realize the car will get it's worst MPG at this point, BUT is 5 to 10 MPG what I should expect?
Thanks

Have you gone back to the dealer and had the service recalls done? There are 4 that I'm aware of for the Sonata hybrid: TG5, TG6, TG8 & TI2

I've read somewhere that you get better results with blue drive off in local not to mention boost of power. Try turning it off while driving and you'll see what I mean. Driving kids to school is THE worst thing to a mpg, though. The traffic and idling while other kids get off are like stop/go on steroids. While you are driving under 25mph (school zone) or sitting idle, your engine is running to charge the battery because it has no time to charge during drive and drains fast because of slow speed and constant stop/go. It is not an ideal situation for any hybrid. I think turning Blue off will help because it allows gas engine to move your car more than to charge the battery. When you are at a stop, it will turn off if battery has enough to start the momentum. My theory anyways...
As for the Blue drive, my wife tested it out some time ago and she managed to go from 37 avg to 45 by turning it off while driving under 45mph. She drives 30/70 city/hwy. Give it a try and see.
