I just bought a 2006 myself with 34000 on it and it's doing the same thing. The dealer said it is the timing belt oil tentioner. They said they will replace it under warrenty. It's not a big deal and it goes away after the oil pressure builds up in the engine. Thats why it only last a couple of seconds. Sooooo if you bought it certified (used but with warrenty) take it to the dealer and they sould fix it.

If you have a 3.3L V6 it is indeed the timing chain tensioners causing this noise. Warrenty say's it's a 14 hour job to replac them. They are covered under warrenty by the powertrain warrenty 5 years 60,000 miles if you bought it used or 10 years 100,000 miles if you bought it new. If you don't have them replaced the timing chains could jump and do engine damage.

I had that same problem with my Sonata as well, and the dealership told me that it was a recall on the car, the problem is easy to fix....it is the TIMING CHAIN TENTIONER....Good luck!

Eventually the vehicle will jump time if the tensioners are not replaced. The tensioners are covered under warranty. Make sure the vehicle does not leak oil after replacement. There are some hacks out there.
