Help! I have a Code 13? Intake Air Temperature Sensor Or Circuit?
Help!!
I have taken my Sonata 96 (manual, 2.0L, 4 cylinder) in for a diagnostics test as it keeps stalling when cold. The check engine light was on. It stalls because the revs just drop off, also idle speed is very low, around 200-300 rmp until engine is warm. Won't cut out if you keep your foot on the accelator. Also doesn't cut out when engine has warmed.
The garage said it was a code 13 and that we need to get the 'Air Charge Temperature Sensor' fixed (as you can't get a new one) which is located in the 'Air Flow Sensor'. I've heard this code can be easily mis-read. They did also check the emissions which were okay.
Is there anything we should we check before getting the sensor fixed as it is very expensive?
Does anyone know or have a diagram as to where the air flow sensor is? Is it easy to take off and replace?
Thanks!!!
Craig

Thanks for your help, I have signed up with hmaservice.com but I can't find the test procedure for a code 13 or for problems with this sensor?
I can't seems to find what a code 13 is for this model of car? Or where the air Flow sensor is?
Could someone please send me a link or point me in the right direction in hmaservice.com
Thanks again!!!

Ok, well a 96 2.0L Sonata is ODB II compliant, which means that a code "13" does not exist. So I don't know what your garage is talking about.
There's a P0130 code, which is upstream O2 sensor malfunction, which would make sense with your problem.
There's a P0100 which is mass air flow sensor, could be what you're looking for.
There's a P0110 which is intake air sensor, makes more sense.
Why don't you get a second opinion, take your car to Autozone and have a free trouble code scan done. Just tell them you have a check engine light, and they'll do a code scan for you. Write down the code(s), and report them back here.
