We have updated results for the Sonata to include owner experiences through June 30, 2010.

Other sources of car reliability information won't cover the more recent months until the summer or even fall of next year.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2011: 44, about average, very small sample size

2009: 26, better than average

2008: 50, about average

2007: 73, about average

2006: 44, better than average

2004: 48, better than average, small sample size

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

The percentage with no repairs is about 69 for the 2006, 45 for the 2007, and 79 for the 2009. These stats require more data, so we don't yet have them for other model years.

Do you have any data for 2010s?

 

Not yet. Probably because it was a short model year--the 2011s were an early intro--we're still two cars short of the minimum needed to include the 2010 in the survey.

We do have solid information on the 2009, which should be similar.

 

The 2010 has now been added to the survey.

Starting this month we have a new question to measure, as objectively as possible, the severity of a problem. Many people have been asking for reliability stats that weight problems by how severe they are, and once we have enough responses with the revised survey we'll start providing this.

Also this month: updated reliability stats.

As always, the more owners participate, the better the information we can provide to everyone.
