Default Owners Manual

Hey all,
My '02 Sonata that I bought a couple months back did not come with a Owners Manual... and I can't seem to find one on-line...

So I was changing the oil the other day and noticed that there is much more then 5 qt's of oil in her, thus I have oil spilled all over the freakin driveway becuase I thought it was 4 qt's like all my other cars. doh!

So I put 5 qt's back in it, but how much is suppose to be in it? 6-7qt's?
Thanks all!

I think 2002 was a transitional year for the EF Sonata. Two versions of the owner's manual exist to reflect some mid-model year upgrades.

Thanks Ken for the manuals... now I just have to figure out which version I have.

Also, in them they say with a Oil & Filter change it should be refilled with 4.77qt's of oil...

Now i KNOW there was at LEAST 6-7qt's in her when I drained it.

Thoughts on that?

Thanks again!

Make sure you haven't drained the transmission pan. I've seen it happen before.

Both manuals indicate 4.4 U.S. quarts in the pan plus 0.3 quarts for the filter. To me, that adds up to 4.7 quarts of oil with a filter change. I would pour 4.7 quarts in the engine and start it up to fill the filter. Once you have operating pressure, shut it off and check the dip stick. If the stick is still low, I would add oil to bring the level up to the full mark.

Uh, who performed the last oil change? It finally dawned on me that ~6 quarts would be consistent for a newer Sonata with the Lambda V6. A quickie lube place might just look up a "Sonata V6", thinking all of them are alike and pumped in 6 quarts. With 5 quarts in the engine (which should work just fine), you likely know already where on the stick you should be.
