where's my oil filter on 2000 V6?
I thought I'd try changing my own oil for the first time. But I cannot find the oil filter. I'm guessing it must be a difficult one to replace if it is this hard to even locate. The owners manual does not say where it is located or illustrate the location. Any help would be appreciated - thanks in advance.

You can't see the oil filter from on top. Locate the dip stick, follow it and note where it disappears. The oil filter is sorta below there. If you look in that general area from the underside, you can see it easily. Changing it is fairly easy as you can get to it easily from the underside. There is enough room there that I can usually loosen mine by hand.

Thanks for your response. I found it underneath. However, on my Sonata the oil filter was covered by a metal piece held by two screws. It appears to be a protective covering of some sort. That's why I could not find it before.
Now if I could just get the drain plug unstuck. Looks like I'm gonna end up at Jiffy lube afterall *sigh*

Hi genedancemachine, the best way for you to know where's your oil filter located, try to go to automotive shop this will help you.

Hey james_75, I believe genedancemachine found the filter 2 years and 3 months ago. At least, I'm assuming that based on the post he made on 11/17/05. But thanks for the help.
