Default auto stalls wen put in R

my gf has a tiberon and when she starts it up and goes to throw it into reverse it will stall out and shes gotta turn off/ on the car again. The weird thing is she has an auto wwhich stalls????? never knew they could do that. Does anyone know if this has happened b4?????

sounds like the tranny is turning into junk,,,yes, autos can stall, slip, pretty much anything a manual can do. if you aren't gonna take it in to a mechanic(which is a good idea since trannys can be nightmares), i would take the tranny pan off to see if any debri is on the bottom of the pan, like washers, metal peices, ect., and if there is,you need a rebuild or a new tranny.

ok well thats not gonna b good bc this cars supposed to last her till the end of college and a new tranny would just b pointless bc itll prob cost about the same as the car cost

Have you tried checking the fluid level in the transmission? Low fluid levels can make an automatic tranny act very erratic. If it is low, only use Hyundai or Mitsubishi SP-III transmission fluid to refill it.

I had a Pontiac that would run fine inreverse but stall in drive. Turned out to be a fuse.
