I bought one last May, and the jury is still out. Got 90K miles on it now. Had to replace the ignition coil and the
fuel pump the 1st 2 months I had it. Got very discouraged. Has not been too bad since then, except for 1 bad
quirk. Its an auto tranny, and on occasion, it will not shift into overdrive when it should. Have to shut the car
completely off, then start it back up for it to fix itself again. Only happens 1 time per week or so. Dealer of
course, tried to sell me a complete tranny replacement $$$. I'm thinking it's electrical or switch related. If I
had to do it all over again, I would have spent 1K more or so, and gotten a honda civic.

Hello, I own a 98 tib with 181,000 (kms), and my husband has a 2000 Tib with 207,000(kms) and we haven't had any major problems with them. They oem breaks had around 160,000 on both of them, which if you ask me, is pretty damn good ( they are both standard, so gearing down does make a bit of a difference). I had some tranny work done not long after I bought it (160,000), but I have a feeling the person who owned it before drove it hard.... which is it is hard not to with these cars!!! Neither has had the ignition, or fuel pump go, or anything like that, just the odd relay, or sensor. So I don't know what to tell you guys, we think they are great cars, and I don't think it matters what kind of car it is, you can still get a bad one now and then.
And for the civic comment (billyjean), all your paying for is the name with Honda's. I have raced many honda's, and they didn't even stand a chance! Plus, Tiburons look WAY nicer!!!

Later,
Stacey98Tib

had my tibby a yr, its an 2001, not many problems, just the ones i knew about when i bought it, but i fix it all myself ,so its cost effective. but anyone that says hyundais are bad cars, they are wrong. they are just a small korean car company that is just now hitting it big with the US. hyundais have great warrentys, and even though us used car buyers dont' get the privlage of having that great warrenty, that says a lot right there. the stuff that goes wrong on hyundais are minimal(with the exception of the few that are just built wrong, but every car makers has that problem) hyundais are good, just not backed well by americans. i was the same way till i bought one, now i know hyundais are good cars and wouldn't stear anyone away from them.
