Default Need help with 06 Tiburon wont Start

Hey guys, newb here from MS. I have an 06 Tiburon with 200K on the clock. Threw up a CEL a couple days before Christmas, I thought nothing of it, figured I'd scan it sometime.

So.... Christmas eve I take the car about two miles up the road to the store, come back and park it. All was well until I tried to crank it later. Turns over good, but absolutely will not hit, spit or sputter.

So... I scan it, comes up with P0016. I read and am still looking on the net to figure this out. I tried to ohm out the crank sensor yesterday and got nothing so I replaced it and am no better off.

The code could be unrelated to the car not starting. I have a fuel pressure gage, but there's nowhere on this thing to connect to.

I do have spark.

Any help is appreciated. My next step will likely be to find TDC and check the timing.

Would a clogged OCV cause it not to do anything like this? I would think timing being off just a little it should at least backfire?

Thank you all in advance,

John.

When was the timing belt last changed?

Not sure if it has ever been changed. I bought the car in the spring with 187k on the clock.

That's not good. It should be changed every 60,000 miles.

I'd check the belt first and then the crank and cam position sensors.

OK, here's my diagnosis. Pulled upper timing chain cover, and belt intact..... but... it will not roll the cam as the crank rolls. I can feel the teeth skipping over the crank pulley, in other words when I killed the car and later restarted it, it just stripped the teeth off the belt at the crank pulley. What the chance the motor is still ok? I'm hoping with the teeth shot on the belt at the crank pulley then maybe if it tried to shove a piston against a valve any then it just would slip?

How much a pita is it to pull the belt, looks like very little room in front of the belt to the wheel well, plus the a/c lines in place.

Thanks again!

I believe that has an interference engine and suspect you may have some bent valves by this time .

So what's the best solution? Pull the head or find an engine?

Nvm, no compression on all four after slipping on a new belt.

Time for a junkyard motor and this time a fresh belt.

Do you unbolt tranny when you pull one of these, or pull the whole assembly? Sorry for a stupid question but I haven't found a manual for this thing and I've never pulled a front wheel drive.

Thanks much to you all!
