Smog test (Calif) fails - must complete 'drive cycle'
Hi - My friend's Tiburon has failed the California smog test because I disconnected the battery the day before (to put a new one in)...
We have been told that the car must now complete a 'drive cycle' of 500 miles until the car's chip resets itself!!
It's been at the Hyundai dealer for 2 days, and they say there's no way to overide it, so they just keep driving the car (182 miles so far...). This is fairly absurd...
Isn't there a way to overide this and reset it?
How about a phone number to Hyundai? (The dealer won't call....).
Thanks in advance,
Martin

There should be contact information in the owners manual. If you can't get to the manual, try looking at HyundaiUSA.com for contact information.
The basic concept here, though, is that some states require that the ECU *not* be reset just prior to an inspection to ensure the owner isn't trying to hide emissions-related codes.
