Have the roads become slick and/or icy lately? What you describe is the anti-lock brake system functioning as designed. If the system senses a wheel locking up into a skid, it will pulsate pressure to the slave cylinder to prevent the skid, which can be felt as you step on the brake pedal. If several wheels are involved, the back pressure could be substantial. Just keep a steady foot on the pedal as you apply brakes. Read page 2-11 of your owners manual.

Default same situation

omg, I thought I was the only one with this problem. But, my Hyundai Tucson 2006 4x4 has the same braking problem. This problem occurs when the roads are icy and slippery. Anti-lock brake pulsating pressure? My vechicle slides while the brakes pulses. I think it is absolutely dangerous! Any tips on how I should handle this when it happens again. I'm so scared to drive in icy conditions now because I can't rely on my Tucson 4x4. Help.

^^^ That's normal. There is nothing wrong with your Tucson. That is the ABS releasing the brakes because the wheels have locked. If your Tucson didn't do that, the wheels would have stayed locked and you would have slid off the road and crashed.

The only thing you can do to prevent that from happening is to slow down when driving in icy condition (or buy studded tires). ABS can't change physics, it only prevents the wheels from locking. So if you brake too hard on ice and the wheels lock, ABS will release the brakes and reapply. Basically the ABS is telling you (through the brake pedal) to press lighter on the brakes.

My 95 v6 still has this problem even when the roads are clear and dry...is there any way of testing to see if the abs is malfunctioning?
