Fuel tank capacity
I purchase litres and my instruements are metric. If in Europe MPG it only becomes 20.6EurMPG still a long way off most quoted figures.
Mind you most of my journeys are short less than 20km round trip and I live at the end of a 3.5km steepish hill.

I know this is an old topic, but another possible scenario could have occurred here as it was attempted on me once. You would agree that it would be impossible to put 60 litres of fuel in a tank that only holds 55 litres, and you would also agree that the tank was not empty when you managed this feat? Might I suggest that you actually pumped 40 litres but pump had not been reset from customer before you who put in 20 litres. I caught a pump just before starting to pump fuel in this manner...I removed nozzle, selected grade and put nozzle in tank, then when i went to push the trigger I glanced at the display and there was still litres and dollar amount there. I waited for it to be reset, I then hung up the hose and walked inside where the clerk was actually going to charge me $30 when I hadn't even pumped a drop.

Ye, hard to deny that it happened when I saw it before I pumped. 2 reasons this happened:
Young fellow working the counter put $30 worth of gas in his car and wanted someone else to foot the bill.
Young fellow working the counter was skimming the till. Hard to steal from the till as it would show up in loss of Gasoline. So by charging the first customer his $30, if he paid cash, then recharging you for the same $30 wouldn't show up on the accounting as a shortage...of course they would not admit it happened, instead they think it makes more sense to have you believe that your 55 litre tank which was still a quarter full held 60 litres.
