Hyundai Tucson 2007: Power Steering Problem 4x2 2000 cc Automatic Gasoline
Hello,
Im new in this forum and Im looking for some help with other people that may have the same experience. My car is a: Tucson 2007, 4x2, 2000 cc, Automatic, Gasoline.
I had problems with the Steering System of my car last week. I took it to the car shop and they replace the belts. The system is working better now but its not completely fixed and heres why: If I move the front wheels totally to the left or right, the belt of the Power Steering Pump will make a noise because the Power Steering Pump Pulley is stopped. Looks like the Pulley is stopped but because the belt is also connected to another pulley, the belt will make the noise.
At the same time, if I go over a puddle (over water I mean), the car turn on the battery light, the brake light and the one of the safe belt and the Steering System doesnt work. I have to stop the car and wait a few minutes and everything goes normal again Looks like the problem is when the water hit the belts of the power steering.
My question is, anybody had the same experience before? Do you know have an idea why this could be happening? Its possible to replace the ROL of the power steeling pump? Any ideas?

Tighten the alternator/water pump belt... if you look at it,, the belt has minimal contact area with the pulley, and that pulley in turn provides the drive for the P/S belt.. The alt belt only grabs maybe 1/3 or less of the water pump pulley, while the P/S belt grabs 1/2 of the drive pulley and 1/2 of the pulley on the P/S pump.
Quite common occurrence with the 2.0 in Elantra/Tiburon (same engine in your Tucson).. Been a couple of posts here in the past if you search through the Elantra forum (more popular),, as there been a couple similar topic in recent past.
In the end, tighten the alternator/water pump belt, and verify P/S belt is secure.

Thank you for your reply!
Thanks for you reply, we try that already but that didn't solved the problem. It looks like a problem in the power steering pump. We'll try take the pump to an specialist in hydraulic to see if they can find the issue. We're not sure yet why is having this kind of problems..
What do you think about the Remanufactured parts?
I thinking in this one if I have to replace it:
Discount Car Parts Stuff - Car Accessories & Truck Accessories - Cheap Auto Parts - Car Cover - Floor Mats - Cargo Liner - power steering pump - 2007 Hyundai Tucson Power Steering Pump

Has this been resolved? I have the same issue. When I spray the tensioner with water, the belt and everything stops. If I apply a little pressure on the tensioner with a wrench, it kicks in again. I'm pretty sure it is just a tensioner that is no longer keeping enough tension on the belt. WHen a little water hits it, it just slips. I will repost when tensioner is replaced.

About the issue with the belt
Hello Macho,
Sorry I didn't reply before, I had no idea what my password was :-)
So let me tell you how I fixed this issue, it was very simple. The reason was the tension of the belt like what you said. My local mechanic was having all the issues, however, when I saw that he was not able to fix it, I took the car to the dealership for a review.
I found out, that the dealership had some equipment that my mechanic didn't so, they put more tension on the belt (without replacing anything)...
So, long story short, after 10 minutes and a cost of $30 (including the complete cleaning of the car) they fixed my issue forever. It was a great deal :-)
Hope it helps you,

I bought the vehicle used and I think that is why the original owner traded it in. They couldn't resolve this issue. It had a brand new belt on it as well.
I wonder if they adjusted the alternator to apply more pressure on the belt? I will give that a try. Thank you very much for replying !!!
