Question Tire wear

I've had this 2001 XG-300 since 2003 I've put a total of 90,000 miles on 5 sets of tires. Alignments have been done and wear on the tires is usually even on all four. I do need an alignment now. The Michelin (94H) tires I have only made it to 24,000 miles. The last two sets were Goodyear and lasted 12,000 miles each before replacing. OK, heres the question. Is there something particular to this vehicle that I am missing? These tires were rated for 45,000 to 50,000 miles. Twice I recieved the warrenty replacement but should I look for a specific tire to use?

XG is a heavy car. If your tires are wearing even, then you don't have a problem except maybe making good tire decisions. Just saying you bought "Goodyear" or Michelin "94H" doesn't mean much. 94 H is the load and speed rating, not the wear rating. Wear rating is the number like "400" or "600". So look for a tire that has a "A A A 600" rating.

For your tire size you will find the best wear in the Bridgestone Turenza Serenity (Tread Wear 740, Traction A, Temperature A) and Goodyear Assurance TripleTred (740, Traction A, Temperature B). The Bridgestone will perform better in a larger temperature span since temperature rating is A.

You can find good information and user ratings on the folowing sites:

Thanks, I was afraid of going to a tire with a hard ride but I like what I've read about these, thanks I'll probably go with Bridgestone Turenza Serenity.

heavy? my intrepid went 150k on the goodyear eagle rear tires. never rotated. thats pretty good. try not rotating the tires and see if the fronts just wear out and the rears do not wear? than just replace the fronts. the argument appears to be that this car wears out tires that would normally not wear out on other cars?

Do not try not rotating the tires. ALWAYS rotate your tires so they wear evenly.

NovaResource is right: Rotate your tires regularly.
This will assure you change your tires is sets of 4 witch is better.

my point was to try and pinpoint which end of the car is causing the extreme wear. we all would assume the fronts cause the majority of wear but not always. the car is aligned to spec and wears out tires in 15k miles? and the wear is poor for different brands of tires? michelin tires which are known for great wear seem to wear out as well? 5 sets of tires in 6 yrs. thats a new set every 14 months? 15k miles? thats ok. yep. just make sure you rotate them so they all wear out together. yea, its a nice car but i never did figure out why i have to buy new tires every other year?

I'm old school and I've had many cars in the past, from Plymoth Fury to Lincoln Continental, to name a few heavys. I have never seen a car eat tires like this one. I love the ride and being old school it drives better than the cars I grew up with. The ones that were like this I drove only as a car hop at the hotels. Oh, I had the Eagles on the first two tries. Next it was Michelin. Briggstone has the next shot. I would have tried the front two new and left the backs the way they were but the ride would tell, bin there. Thanks guys, it's great to hash this stuff out, it can be expensive otherwise.
