I had a dealer-installed CC put on my 95 Escort. They attached the stem to the steering column shroud; drilled a hole through the plastic and that was it. It still works after 120,000 miles (except for a short time when I had a vacuum leak that affected several other things).

 

I want to take a moment to say Thank You to all that responded to my questions.

Unfortunately, we found that the Accent did not meet my Mother's needs, and several dealers we found either did not have the car in the right color or the right equipment, or were impossible to deal with. The main killer was the fact the Accent was not available as a 5-door. We ended up purchasing a 2007 Pontiac Vibe, which is essentially a Toyota Matrix rebadged. The dealer was more than willing to work with us. Let me just say the price waswithin $2000 of the Accent we looked at.

My opinion is that Hyundai/Kia is producing vehicles that, overall, are well-designed, and have good quality. I would not have considered Hyundai at all ten years ago. Also, Hyundai, as well as Kia,is still regarded as a "secondary" line by many area dealerships as far as sales and service go. However, as time goes on, hopefully this will change.

Well, I'm sorry you went with another brand; I was hoping you would be hanging around here a bit. But I wish y'all luck with the Matrix. I looked at it but decided it was a little too SUV-like for my liking, but to each his or her own.

As I said, I am considering purchasing a Sonata, as we test-drove one during the car search. It was a bit big for Mom, but I liked it. My currentdaily driver is 23 years old and starting to show its age, and I am considering a Sonata as a replacement. however, our local Hyundai dealer's service and parts departments(also Ford and Chrysler) is on strike, so I am not going topatronizethem until they have that settled. I am not going back to the other dealership I mentioned where we looked at the first Accent.

I am not impressed with much of the available used car inventory in general in my area, which is why I am considering new instead.

 

What area are you in?

It seems like the Sonata, after a slowish start, is really gaining momentum. People who've never considered Hyundais before try the Sonata and are shocked at the value for the money.

 

I am in southwest Washington state.

 

Maybe all your used cars get sucked up by California and Seattle where they maybe get top dollar for them. No matter; a new Sonata won't put you in the poor house, and it's a nice car. EPA actually calls it a "large car" and not a "midsize".

 

My wife is driving here 3rd accent now which was my second accent and I have just taken delivery of a getz 1.5 crtd.
Exellent cars just service and put petrol in and drive!
These are the best cars we have owned!
Ps the getz is brand new and the turbo makes it go like hell when it comes in it blows your mind at the power!

Well, it has been a year since I posted here. However, it is time for me to seriously consider replacing my own vehicle, now 24 years old and giving me a few fits as of late.

I visited the local dealer today (closed Sundays) to get an idea of the 08-09 offerings. I like the Sonata, but want to keep it around $20K or less. I want to know...does the Sonata 4-cylinder use a timing belt or chain?

Also, I am going to test drive an Elantra later in the week. Does this use a timing chain or belt?
It looks like a fairly roomy car for the size and price.

And finally...it looks like the 08 Accents still do not have cruise as an option. Any chance this will make the option list for 09? (no 09's here yet)

I have decided my next vehicle will be NEW so I am conducting as much research as I can before making a purchase.
