Default Chain/strap wrench

Hi folks,

Not sure if this is the right section as I couldn't see a "tools" section.

Has anyone got any advice over the difference between a chain oil filter wrench and a strap oil filter wrench?

Chain:

Strap:

Can't decide which would be better. For nearly 14 years, I have managed without, but have decided to buy one. I like the idea of a strap wrench as it seems more versatile and could be used on pulleys and other items without fear of damaging them.

Any advice?

Neither of those. Forget the chain and if you want a strap wrench, get metal or rubber, not nylon. These are much better choices:

Metal:

Rubber:

Plyers:

Compression "socket":

Thanks for the reply.

Why not the nylon type?

I was after something versatile and strong that I could also use to hold pulleys etc if I needed. I actually have a boa type rubber wrench, but never used it as I considered it too weak for anything and a waste of money.

I don't believe they grip as well as the steel straps (with little spikes) or the rubber straps.
