Default '99 Excel radio

I am replacing the radio ina '99 Excel (wifes car). I've removed the screws behind the ash tray but...Can someone please tell me what's holding the plastic cover on at the top? I can't see or feel in there...

I just did the same job on my son's '97 mod. and there are clips that quite easily release. What's the deal on the '99? I don't want to simply yank on it and break something.

Thanks anyone

Brooksta

Sign up for an account at HMAService.com, it' free. Hyundai provides all the troubleshooting and diagnostic info on the site including removal instructions for the console.

The HMA Service site is for U.S. market cars only. The "X3" variant of the Excel was renamed the Accent for sale in the U.S. in 1995, so you will not find service information for a 1999 Excel per se. I've attached the radio removal and installation instructions for a 1999 Accent which should be close enough to help, I hope.

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

1. Remove the ash tray.

2. Remove the center lower crash pad facia panel mounting screws.

3. Pull out facia panel.

4. Remove the audio mounting screws.

5. Remove the audio from the mounting bracket.

6. Disconnect the wiring and antenna cable.

7. Replace in reverse order of preceding steps.
